Vivek Agnihotri sent the legal notice to Banerjee along with Pallavi Joshi and Abhishek Agarwal, asking her to either apologize for her "critic statement" or "produce authenticated proof to support her statement". Vivek Agnihotri revealed he sent legal to Mamta Banerjee in series of tweets on his Twitter handle. Filmmaker Agnihotri alleged that "Banerjee's comment were defamatory and made with malicious intent". Vivek Agnihotri accuses Mamta Banerjee of "her trying to gain popularity among the so called secular society" through such proof less statements. Agnihotri also acclaimed Mamta of was trying to keep the public under dark about the Bengal genocide issues.
The legal notice sent to Mamta Banerjee just day after the statement of her banning the recently released movie "The Kerala Story" in West Bengal. Mamta Banerjee called the movie "distorted story" relating The Kerala Story. Mamta Banerjee's statement over the movie "The Kashmir Files" and banning of "The Kerala Story" raised a serious question over the freedom of expression across the country.
